Traditional Volksfest of the Hammah Marksmen's Association connects the village
The Hammah Schützenfest is deeply rooted in village life. For generations, residents have maintained the traditional custom, which strengthens social bonds and connects generations. The Hammah Marksmen's Association is the custodian of this tradition and organizes the festival weekend with great volunteer commitment.
The Schützenfest spans three days, from Friday to Sunday. The kickoff on Friday is the social evening in the festival tent. Saturday features the King's Shoot, the grand festival parade, and the dance evening with a live band. Sunday concludes with the morning pint ('Frühschoppen'), Family Day, and the proclamation of the new monarchs.
The traditional festival parade on Saturday, accompanied by a marching band, flag bearers, and friendly marksmen's associations, winds through the decorated village. Residents place birch trees in front of their houses and adorn windows and entrances with garlands. Following the King's Shoot, the new monarchs – the Marksmen's King, Junior Marksmen's King, Ladies' Queen, and Children's Queen – are proclaimed in the festival tent.
Hammah is a member municipality of the Oldendorf-Himmelpforten municipality in the south of the Stade district. The municipality comprises several rural communities where association and marksmen's traditions are deeply ingrained. The Hammah Schützenfest is part of the region's dense network of traditional festivals and is one of the well-known events of the spring season.
The club grounds in the center of Hammah will be set up as the festival site. The festival tent, shooting ranges, carousels, and food stalls will shape the festival scenery.
Saturday brings the classic highlight with the King's Shoot, the festival parade, and the King's Ball. The proclamation of the new monarchs is the central social moment of the weekend.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the Hammah Marksmen's Association in spring. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
