Rural Community Shooting Festival in Artland

The Schützenfest Hahnenmoor-Börstel is the annual traditional festival of the Hahnenmoor and Börstel rural communities in the Artland municipality. The shooting club preserves the tradition of two neighboring farming communities with this festival — an example of the Bauernschaftsschützenfest (rural community shooting festival) form widespread in Lower Saxony.

Two Days in Mid-June 2026

The 2026 edition takes place on Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14 at the Hahnenmoor-Börstel Schützenplatz. Thus, the festival joins the dense schedule of shooting festivals in the Artland and coincides with the Schützenfest Hengelage-Brokstreek — a diversity that shapes the region.

Classic Shooting Festival Program

As is customary for rural community shooting festivals in the Artland, the festival includes a clear program of customs: bird shooting, election of the king, proclamation of the new royal couple, parade through the rural communities, king's banquet, dance evening with a live band. The festival catering provides beer, bratwurst, and hearty classics.

Hahnenmoor as a Landscape Specialty

The Hahnenmoor is a moorland landscape designated as a nature reserve. The agricultural use in the surrounding area has a special cultural imprint — and makes the Schützenfest Hahnenmoor-Börstel a unique traditional event that expresses the connection of the rural communities to their natural home.
