Gehlenberg — A District of Friesoythe with Club Tradition

Gehlenberg is one of the districts of the town of Friesoythe in the Cloppenburg district. Like all rural communities in Friesoythe, Gehlenberg cultivates its independent club life — with a marksmen's association, sports clubs, and local heritage preservation. The annual Schützenfest is the most important club event and the highlight of the village calendar.

Weekend After Ascension Day — A Fixed Date

The Schützenfest Gehlenberg has its fixed date: the weekend after Ascension Day. In 2026, this falls on May 16th to 18th. This consistent timing makes planning easier for marksmen and guest clubs; it is a typical characteristic of many North German village Schützenfeste.

Three-Day Schützenfest Programme

The programme and marquee operations extend over three days. Embedded in the proven structure of the Schützenfest: Friday festival opening with a dance evening, Saturday king's shoot and festival ball, Sunday festival parade, proclamation, and morning pint. In the marquee, catering, live music or DJ, and the marksmen's catering provide the typical atmosphere.

Friesoythe Marksmen's Festival Family

Gehlenberg belongs to the Friesoythe marksmen's festival family, which includes numerous dates throughout the season from May to August — from Ahrensdorf (May) via Markhausen, Thüle, Altenoythe (June/July) to the big main festival at the beginning of August and the later festivals in Kampe/Ikenbrügge, Edewechterdamm, and Neuvrees. This season is part of the West Oldenburg marksmen's tradition with its own identity.
