Four-day marksmen's festival at the historic Gebhardshagen moated castle with a parade and fireworks
Few festival grounds in southern Salzgitter can compete with the atmosphere offered by the Gebhardshagen moated castle. The medieval castle complex, originally built in the 13th century and rebuilt several times over the centuries, forms a unique setting for the four-day marksmen's festival. A marquee, stalls, and carousels are set up on the extensive castle grounds, with the castle itself providing the backdrop.
As with all major North German marksmen's festivals, the Schützenfest Gebhardshagen follows a proven structure over four days:
The visual highlight is the parade on Sunday, where marksmen's companies, brass bands, floats, and guest clubs march through the streets of Gebhardshagen. The local population traditionally lines the route, celebrating the marksmen with applause and small refreshments.
The crowning finale of the festival is a fireworks display that bathes the night sky above the moated castle in colorful cascades of light. The reflections on the moat surrounding the castle double the visual effect.
The Schützenfest Gebhardshagen uniquely combines sporting tradition with local festival culture. For decades, the Schützengesellschaft Gebhardshagen e.V. has strived for a balanced mix of classic marksmen's competitions, folk festival atmosphere, and family-friendly programming. The moated castle provides a unique historical setting that distinguishes the festival from many North German marksmen's festivals.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
