Four-day Schützenfest on the last weekend of June in the municipality of Salzhausen
The Schützenverein Garstedt-Wulfsen e.V. was founded in 1928, making it one of the oldest clubs in the municipality of Salzhausen. For almost a century, club life with shooting sports, youth work, and especially the annual Schützenfest has shaped the character of the villages of Garstedt, Wulfsen, and Schierhorn.
Four festival days from Thursday to Sunday mark the highlight of the club year. Thursday traditionally opens with the King's Shoot, followed by the grand Zapfenstreich (a military tattoo ceremony) on Friday evening. Saturday is dedicated to the grand parade through the village, followed by the King's Ball, and Sunday concludes with the Frühschoppen, the children's festival, and the proclamation of the King.
The highlight of every Schützenfest is the competition for the royal title. The new monarch, who will help shape the club year and the next festival, is determined through the King's Shoot. The subsequent King's Dinner honors the new kings and queens with a festive meal among the marksmen's family.
The parade on Saturday afternoon leads the marksmen, the marching bands, and the invited neighboring clubs through Garstedt. Clubs, the fire department, and residents show their support by decorating houses and front gardens festively. Afterwards, the parade marches back to the Schützenplatz, where the King's Ball begins in the marquee.
Sunday is particularly geared towards families: Children's King's Shoot, carousels, bouncy castles, and games on the festival grounds. The traditional Frühschoppen with brass music gathers members in the morning for beer and bratwurst. In the afternoon, the festive proclamation of the new monarchs takes place.
The large marquee on the Schützenplatz is the center of all evening events. Live bands and DJs ensure a full dance floor until late at night on at least two evenings. Catering with North German specialties, bratwurst, fries, and of course, chilled Pils are an integral part.
The 2026 edition continues the club's nearly 100-year tradition. Schierhorn and the surrounding villages will likely celebrate along again this year, as the club cooperates closely with neighboring associations.
The exact program with band names, times, and detailed schedule will be released by the Schützenverein in early summer 2026. This information will be available in good time on the club's website and in local announcements.
