Village Schützenfest of the Drögenbostel marksmen's association with Pentecost tradition
The Drögenbostel marksmen's association is one of the nine member clubs of the Visselhövede Marksmen's Federation of 1912. The annual Schützenfest is the social highlight of the village and has shaped the Pentecost weekend for generations. Despite the village's modest size, the association manages to organize a varied festival program that combines tradition and conviviality.
Gasthaus Bremer in Drögenbostel has been in operation since 1908, making it one of the most traditional inns in the Visselhövede collective municipality. It serves as the marksmen's association's local and festival center. Meetings, dance evenings, king's dinners, and social gatherings of the club year take place here. During the Schützenfest, the inn, with its festival tent and outdoor area, is the hub of activity.
The Schützenfest traditionally spans three days, from Friday to Sunday. It begins with a joint opening evening with live music. Saturday focuses on bird shooting and king shooting. Sunday features a festive parade, a church service, the king's dinner, and the ceremonial proclamation of the new monarchs.
The highlight of the festival is the coronation of the new royal couple. Whoever hits the decisive piece during the king shooting becomes the new king or queen. The royal couple represents the association until the next Schützenfest at events, parades, and receptions.
The Schützenfest is more than just a club festival – it's a meeting point for the entire village community. Former residents of Drögenbostel return for the weekend, families celebrate together, and neighboring clubs are guests. Thus, the festival weekend remains an important social anchor of village life.
From Friday evening to Sunday evening, the marksmen's association offers a continuous festival program. Tradition, competition, and conviviality merge into a village festival weekend.
The highlight is the coronation of the new monarchs on Sunday. The royal couple will represent the association for the next twelve months.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Drögenbostel Marksmen's Association in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
