Schützenfest with 160 Years of Tradition — BSG Röllinghausen-Berghausen

In early June 2026 — presumably from June 7 to 10, 2026 — the Bürgerschützengilde Röllinghausen-Berghausen 1864 e.V. (BSG) will celebrate its annual four-day Schützenfest at the Bezirkssportanlage Klarastraße in Recklinghausen-Röllinghausen. The Bürgerschützengilde was founded in 1864, boasting over 160 years of club tradition — one of the oldest shooting associations in the Vest Recklinghausen region.

Two Districts, One Bürgerschützengilde

The BSG is the shooting association for the two Recklinghausen districts of Röllinghausen and Berghausen in the south of the city. The districts have a village-like character, are small and manageable — and the Schützengilde is one of the most important club structures that keep district life going. The history of both districts, now part of the large city of Recklinghausen, is intertwined with the history of the club.

Bezirkssportanlage Klarastraße as the Venue

The venue is the Bezirkssportanlage Klarastraße in Röllinghausen — a classic Ruhr area club ground with space for a festival tent, sports fields, and a clubhouse. This is where the festival tent is erected, the shooting range is set up, and the parade is prepared. The facility is located in the middle of the district and is within walking distance for residents — which enhances the village-like character of the festival.

Four-Day Festival Program

The Schützenfest follows the classic four-day schedule:

• Thursday/Friday — Opening with an entrance procession, festival tent program, and initial shooting competitions (e.g., for the Brotherhood Bird)
• Saturday — Bird Shooting: All members take part in shooting to bring down the wooden bird from its perch. Whoever takes the decisive shot becomes the new King. In the evening, the Coronation Ball takes place in the festival tent.
• Sunday — Grand Parade through Röllinghausen and Berghausen with guards, a brass band, the King and Queen, and all members. Afterwards, a Frühschoppen (morning pint) and family day at the festival grounds.

Recklinghausen — Capital of the Vest

Recklinghausen is the district capital of the Kreis Recklinghausen, with around 113,000 inhabitants. Historically, it is considered the “Capital of the Vest Recklinghausen” — a region north of the Emscher river. Famous for the Ruhrfestspiele (in May/June) and its old districts with their Bürgerschützengilden — the BSG Röllinghausen-Berghausen is one of the most traditional of these associations.
