Traditional Schützenfest of the Brinkum Marksmen's Association e.V. in the district of the municipality of Stuhr south of Bremen
The Brinkum Marksmen's Association e.V. looks back on a long tradition, which – like many North German marksmen's associations – has its roots in the community citizenry of the 19th century. The association today has several hundred members and maintains regular club life at the shooting range throughout the year. The highlight of each season is the annual Schützenfest, which traditionally takes place in July.
Brinkum belongs to the Lower Saxony municipality of Stuhr in the Diepholz district, but it is located directly on the border with Bremen. In recent decades, the town has developed into a dynamic suburban community with residential areas, commercial zones, and an active club scene. The Schützenfest is considered the cultural anchor of its village origins in an environment that is now urban in character.
The festival weekend traditionally begins on Friday with the assembly of the clubs, a festival ceremony, and the king's shoot or a club evening. Saturday focuses on the king's shoot, followed by the evening's King's Ball with a live band. On Sunday, a large festival parade with music groups, clubs, and honored guests marches through the town center. This is followed by the proclamation of the new monarchs, a concert, and a relaxed conclusion in the festival tent.
Parallel to the official club program, the Brinkum festival week is also a Volksfest (folk festival): carousels and rides, showmen's businesses, snack stands, and a family day with a children's Schützenfest are part of the standard program. Admission to the festival grounds is generally free; only dance evenings in the tent incur admission fees.
The program has developed a stable structure over the years, changing only in details. The highlight is the king's shoot, which determines the new monarchs – a tradition that has been cultivated in the Brinkum Marksmen's Association for decades. The outgoing monarchs of the previous year are honored with a king's dinner; the new dignitaries are presented to the public for the first time in the grand festival parade.
The festival is embedded in the traditional club life of the marksmen's association and is aimed not only at active members but at the entire Brinkum population and guests from Bremen and the surrounding Bremen area.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in early summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Current detailed dates, the route of the festival parade, and admission prices for the dance events will be published on the Marksmen's Association's website.
