Traditional Schützenfest with children's festival, parade, and coronation — July 11th to 13th, 2026
The Schützenfest Bevern is one of the most traditional village festivals in the municipality of Essen (Oldenburg). The festival is organized by the Heimat- und Schützenverein Bevern e.V., which has been preserving the customs of the marksmen's tradition in the Bevern district for generations. The venue is the Schützenplatz Bevern, the traditional center of village life.
The 2026 edition spans three full festival days. It begins on Saturday, July 11th, with the Kinderschützenfest (children's marksmen's festival), which is dedicated to the youngest attendees. On Sunday, July 12th, the Hauptfest (main festival) follows, featuring a parade, the proclamation of the king, and a dance evening in the festival tent. The event concludes on Monday, July 13th, with the traditional Festausklang (festival finale), where the outgoing and the new king, along with association members, celebrate the end of the festival.
In the Oldenburg Münsterland region, the Schützenfest is far more than just an association festival. It is an identity-forming event that brings together all generations. The bird shooting, king's banquet, parade with a musical band, decoration of the royal courts, and the solemn enthronement of the new marksmen's king form the core elements of the program.
The children's Schützenfest on Saturday, with its own children's king and queen, ensures that the tradition is passed on to the next generation.
Bevern is one of the districts of the municipality of Essen (Oldenburg) in the Cloppenburg district. The municipality is located in the heart of the Oldenburg Münsterland, a region where Catholic customs and marksmen's traditions are particularly vibrant. The Schützenfest Bevern is part of the series of numerous local association festivals and traditionally marks the social highlight of the summer in the district.
