Schützengilde Barßel — Tradition in the Town Center
The Schützengilde Barßel e.V. is the main association for the shooting fraternity in the center of Barßel. Every year, it organizes the main Schützenfest, which holds a firm place in the town's calendar on the first weekend of July. Barßel itself, with its boat harbor, harbor festival, and its location on the Barßeler Tief, is one of the vibrant centers in the northern district of Cloppenburg.
Classic Course of a North German Schützenfest
The festival follows the classic course: King's shooting competition before the festival, collection of the king on festival Saturday, festive parade through the town center, church service, king's banquet, proclamation and coronation of the new royal court, dance evenings in the festival tent with a live band, and a children's king's shooting competition.
Embedded in the Barßel Shooting District
The Schützenfest Barßel is part of a dense festival calendar in the Barßel shooting district, which includes several Schützenfeste in the various districts throughout spring and summer (Barßelermoor, Elisabethfehn, Reekenfeld-Kamperfehn, Neuland, Harkebrügge). In 2026, the district shooting festival will also take place in Harkebrügge.
