Three-day traditional local shooting festival in the Lehrte district of Arpke
Arpke, a district of the town of Lehrte with a village character, maintains a tradition passed down through generations with its annual Schützenfest. The Arpke Shooting Club organizes the three-day folk and shooting festival, which takes place every August and combines shooting customs with folk festival fun. Three days full of tradition and community, as the club itself describes it — that is the core of the festival.
Shooting festivals have a special significance in Lower Saxony. They combine sporting competitions — especially the king's shooting — with social receptions, parades, and folk festival elements. In Arpke, the festival is the most important event in the club's calendar. Active shooters compete against each other, new monarchs are crowned, friendly clubs travel to attend, and brass bands accompany the parades.
Friday evening marks the festive opening with the official inauguration, the first dance evening, and the opening of the festival grounds. Saturday is dedicated to competitions, receptions, and a grand dance evening in the festival tent. Sunday features the festival church service, the grand parade through the district, the crowning of the new monarchs, and finally, the King's Ball. Throughout all three days, the festival grounds offer amusement rides, shooting galleries, and food stalls for a classic folk festival atmosphere.
For Arpke, the Schützenfest is more than just a club festival. It is the occasion for families to meet, for former residents to return, for neighbors to chat, and for new residents to get to know village life. The voluntary work of countless helpers makes the festival possible — from setup and dismantling to catering and organizing the program items.
From August 7 to 9, 2026, the Arpke Shooting Club will host its traditional folk and shooting festival on the Arpke festival grounds. Three days full of tradition and community await visitors.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the Arpke Shooting Club in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
