St. Gorgonius Schützenverein Arkeburg
The St. Gorgonius Schützenverein Arkeburg preserves the traditions of the Arkeburg district of Goldenstedt. Its patron saint is Saint Gorgonius, an early Christian martyr of the 4th century—a relatively rare choice of patron that gives the club a distinct profile. Like many Schützenvereine in the Oldenburg Münsterland region, it combines tradition, faith, and sociability.
Arkeburg as a District
Arkeburg is one of Goldenstedt's districts with a historical background: the name refers to an ancient fortified settlement (earthwork fort), which was built in pre-Christian times as a defensive structure in the North German Plain. Today, Arkeburg is a predominantly agricultural village with its own club structure and an active Schützenverein.
Tent Party on Saturday at 6 PM
The festival weekend begins on Saturday, July 11th, from 6 PM with a large Zeltfete (tent party)—a hybrid of a formal ceremony, dance evening, and disco party, primarily aimed at attracting a younger audience. Live music from a cover band or a DJ set will ensure a danceable atmosphere late into the night.
Parade on Sunday at 2 PM
The parade on Sunday, July 12th, from 2 PM is the social heart of the festival. The marksmen's company, friendly clubs, marching band, and music band will march through Arkeburg. Afterwards, the proclamation of the new royal family will take place on the Schützenplatz, followed by the king's ball in the marquee with a live band.
