Start of the OHZ Festival Season
The Scharmbecker Maimarkt opens the festival season in Osterholz-Scharmbeck every year. From late spring to autumn, other highlights follow — town festival, Craft Beer Days, Scharmbecker Schützenfest, Scharmbecker Herbstmarkt — but the Maimarkt represents the convivial awakening of the city center after the quiet winter months. With its around 40 showmen, the plant market, and the flea market on Saturday, it combines classic folk festival (Volksfest) elements with the character of a spring market.
Ferris Wheel, Carousels, and Plants
Carousel operators present classics such as the chain carousel, bumper cars, children's carousel, and a large Ferris wheel on the market square. The plant market offers summer flowers, herbs, potted plants, and seeds — many hobby gardeners use the Maimarkt for their spring planting. The flea market on Saturday attracts bargain hunters and collectors to the market square.
Gastronomy and Family Offer
Snack stands with bratwurst, fries, potato pancakes, candied almonds, and sweets cater to visitors. Families will find children's carousels, throwing stalls, and game stands. The market is open daily from 2 PM to 10 PM.
