The Sängerfest im Lokschuppen Hochdahl is a fixed date in the Erkrath event calendar: Every year on Ascension Day, the two Hochdahl choirs – the Männergesangverein Hochdahl 1909 and the Frauenchor Hochdahl 1942 – invite you to a joint concert in the historic Lokschuppen Hochdahl.

Program – Broad Musical Palette

The program of the Hochdahl choirs is explicitly cross-genre: classical choral pieces, international pop and film songs, emotional ballads, rock sounds. This allows the choirs to reach an audience beyond the traditional choir audience. A deliberate strategy by the associations to open their concerts to a broader public.

Musical Direction

The musical direction is by Simone Bönschen. Thorsten Schäffer accompanies on the piano, with flute accents by Pia Marei Hauser. The combination of male choir, female choir, and piano-flute accompaniment gives the concert a special sonic depth.

Lokschuppen Hochdahl – The Venue

The Lokschuppen Hochdahl is a historic railway locomotive depot from the mid-19th century – a remarkable industrial monument at Erkrath-Hochdahl station. Today, it is used as a cultural venue; its beer garden is known for its relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. Hopmanns Olive provides the catering at the Sängerfest – with Mediterranean snacks and drinks.

Erkrath – The Town in the Neander Valley

Erkrath, in the Kreis Mettmann district, is located between Düsseldorf and Wuppertal, right at the entrance to the famous Neanderthal. Hochdahl is one of Erkrath's districts, with its own train station and an active community scene. The two Hochdahl choirs have shaped the musical life of the community for over a century.
