Highlight of the Saar wine season with crowning of the Saar-Obermosel Wine Queens, fireworks and parade
Few Moselle-Saar towns combine as much postcard romance as Saarburg. The waterfall, which rushes through the middle of the old town, Saarburg Castle on the hill, and the narrow half-timbered alleys form the backdrop for the annual Saarweinfest. It is the flagship of the Saar wine region – and a must-attend event for anyone interested in Saar Riesling.
Unlike pure wine festivals, the Saarweinfest combines wineries with local gastronomy. Saar winegrowers serve their wines, Saarburg restaurateurs set up food stalls, and regional specialties such as Saargau lamb, game dishes, and Moselle asparagus complement the offerings. This synergy ensures a high culinary standard and a distinctly regional character.
The highlights of the weekend are the crowning of the Saar-Obermosel Wine Queens – a traditional representative figure who represents the region in the wine world for one year – and the parade on Sunday. Clubs, winegrowers, traditional costume groups, and music bands march through Saarburg's old town, celebrating the connection between wine, tradition, and the town community.
The musical fireworks display over the Saar River is the visual highlight: hundreds of pyrotechnic effects are synchronized with specially curated music, and the reflection of the castle and the waterfall lends the show a rare depth. It is one of the most impressive festival productions on the Moselle and Saar rivers and attracts visitors from the entire greater Trier area, Saarland, and Luxembourg.
The Saarweinfest 2026 is supported by VVV Saarburg and the Saar winegrowers. The festivities are spread throughout the entire old town, with focal points at Buttermarkt, Großer Markt, and along the Saarufer.
The organizer will publish specific band lineups, parade route, and the time of the musical fireworks on the official website.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
