Monthly program focuses at the Trier UNESCO World Heritage Sites from May to September 2026
The “Roman Life” series is a central format of the General Directorate for Cultural Heritage Rhineland-Palatinate (GDKE) for conveying ancient Roman lifestyles at the Trier UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In 2026, the series will receive special attention through the parallel anniversary year “40 Years of Trier UNESCO World Heritage” — it forms one of the most vibrant program points of the anniversary summer.
The concept of the series: On each first weekend of the months from May to September 2026, a specific aspect of Roman daily life is presented at a selected World Heritage Site. The thematic diversity allows for repeat visits throughout the season, experiencing a different facet of Roman life each time.
2026 Program Plan:
The events are supported by reenactment associations and specialists who work with historically reconstructed equipment and costumes. This creates direct encounters with ancient Trier for families and school classes — the city that was considered the “second Rome” north of the Alps.
The 2026 edition is part of the “40 Years of Trier UNESCO World Heritage” anniversary year and is considered one of the GDKE's most popular educational formats. The five themed weekends allow for repeat visits with new experiences each time.
Families, school classes, and tourists experience ancient life up close — from craft demonstrations to gladiator fights.
Included in the regular entrance fee for the World Heritage Sites — no additional charge.
Dates 2026: May 1-3 (Crafts, Imperial Baths), June 6-7 (Gladiators, Amphitheater), July 4-5 (Horsemanship), August 1-2 (Food and Drink), September 5-6 (Military).
