41st edition of the traditional wine festival at Brunnenplatz with six wineries from Rheinhessen, Kaiserstuhl, and Mosel
In 2026, the Pyrmont Wine Festival celebrates its 41st edition. What began four decades ago as a small tasting with a few friendly vintners has become one of the highlights in the spa town's event calendar. The festival has been initiated and supported for decades by Weinhandel Sauerweins, who are responsible for selecting the wineries, logistics, and the musical entertainment.
The selection of participating vintners remains deliberately manageable: six family-run wineries from Rheinhessen, Kaiserstuhl, and Mosel travel to Bad Pyrmont, set up their stands, and personally serve their wines over four days. This constellation allows for a direct comparison of the typical styles of the three regions: the fruit-forward Rieslings and Silvaners from Rheinhessen, the robust Spätburgunders and Grauburgunders from Kaiserstuhl, and the delicate steep-slope Rieslings from the Mosel.
Brunnenplatz is located between Brunnenstraße and the spa park, framed by historic facades and the entrance to the famous spa park with the northernmost palm garden in the Alps. Long tables, standing tables, and wine arbors are set up here. The festival has been a meeting point for regulars since 1986 — many have been coming year after year for decades.
A different band or ensemble performs on each of the four festival days. The musical spectrum ranges from acoustic sets and jazz combos to bands with Mediterranean repertoires. The stage is centrally located on the square, and the music accompanies the tastings without dominating them.
The vintners bring not only their wines but also typical specialties from their home regions: Flammkuchen from Kaiserstuhl, Riesling aspics from Mosel, Spundekäs from Rheinhessen, vintner's sausages, fried potatoes, and onion cake. One stand offers a selection of regional cheeses, another serves bread baked in a wood-fired oven.
The Pyrmont Wine Festival is designed to be intergenerational: families with children, senior regulars, young couples, and tourists from neighboring Hesse, Westphalia, or Hamburg all find their place. The atmosphere remains convivial, and while the crowds are considerable, they are never overwhelming. Those who appreciate the flair of southern European squares will feel transported to France or Italy for these four days — without having to leave home.
The Pyrmont Wine Festival 2026 relies on the formula that has worked for 41 years: six hand-picked family wineries, personal advice at the stand, and a Mediterranean atmosphere in one of the spa town's most beautiful squares. The program and participating wineries are selected annually by Weinhandel Sauerweins.
The final list of wineries and the musical program will be published on the organizer's website.
The exact daily musical program will be published by the organizer in early summer 2026.
