In 2025, Pritzwalk was focused on preparing for the 770th-anniversary celebrations in 2026. Regular city activities and programme planning marked the year; the city worked on conceptualising the Autumn Lights and other anniversary events.
In the preceding year, 2025, the city of Pritzwalk used the time for programme conception for the 770th-anniversary celebration in 2026. The unusual idea of installing 770 lights in the city's Grüngürtel — one light for each year of the city's history — was developed into the signature event of the Herbstlichter.
Pritzwalk is among the oldest towns in the Prignitz region and, with its 770th anniversary in 2026, positions itself as a historically prominent city in the northwestern Mark Brandenburg.
