Spring Volksfest with Tradition

The Potsdam Spring Festival — officially Frühjahrsvolksfest — has been held annually in the Neuer Lustgarten since 1999, Potsdam's central event space between the City Palace, Alter Markt, and the Havel River. With over 25 editions, the festival is one of the city's oldest contemporary Volksfeste and has become firmly integrated into Potsdam's annual calendar over the years.

Classic Funfair

The festival offers the full program of a classic Volksfest funfair: a Ferris wheel with views over Potsdam's city center, dodgems, a roller coaster, Breakdance, Tower Flyer, Wave Swinger, and numerous children's rides. Alongside these, candy, snack, and game stalls characterize the festival grounds — almonds, crêpes, bratwurst, fries, and the classic scent of the carousel are part of the festival's identity.

Wednesday is Family Day

An established tradition is the Wednesday Family Day: reduced prices on rides and game stalls make visiting easier for families. This positions the Spring Festival specifically as a family-friendly alternative to larger, more commercial Wiesn formats, remaining accessible to Potsdam residents and visitors from the region.

Potsdam and its Volksfest Double

In Potsdam's event calendar, the Spring Festival, together with the Autumn Festival (usually August/September), forms the Volksfest double feature. While other Brandenburg cities link their Volksfeste to traditional occasions like city festivals or harvest festivals, Potsdam's Volksfeste are classic showman events — complementing the state capital's otherwise rather high-culture image with its palaces, film school, and HFF.
