Summer festival on the Moselle riverbank
Pommern is a small but charming Moselle village located between Cochem and Treis-Karden. It is primarily known for two things: the archaeological site of Martberg above the village and the volunteer-organized Uferrock Festival, which transforms the festival meadow on the Moselle riverbank into an open-air rock stage every July. In addition, the village maintains its own vibrant festival culture, the highlight of which is the Wine Festival in early August.
The Wine Festival takes place on the festival grounds directly on the Moselle riverbank – the same site that also hosts Uferrock. Over four days, a festival tent, wine stands from Pommern vintners, a beer stand, food stalls, small carousels for children, and live music characterize the scene. The festival grounds are spacious enough to offer a cozy atmosphere even with a large number of visitors.
The program follows a proven structure: Opening on Thursday or Friday evening, big dance evenings on Saturday with a live band, a morning pint (Frühschoppen) on Sunday with brass music, a family afternoon with play opportunities for children, and the festival winding down on Monday with a cozy local evening (Heimatabend).
The wines are exclusively from Pommern vintners and their neighbors – Rieslings, Pinot Noir, and Müller-Thurgau from the steep slopes around Martberg.
Culinary delights include typical Moselle festival cuisine: "Schwenkbraten" (grilled pork neck) from open embers, bratwurst, fries, "Reibekuchen" (potato pancakes), Riesling wild ragout, and hearty festive dishes. At the food stalls, you can also find rarer regional specialties like "Döppekuchen" (baked potato and sausage casserole) and "Hunsrücker Schwartenmagen" (a type of head cheese).
The 2026 Wine Festival in Pommern runs from Friday, August 7, to Monday, August 10. The festival grounds are located directly on the Moselle riverbank. The event is organized by the Pommern Festival Committee in collaboration with local clubs and vintners.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizers in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
