Aicha vorm Wald — Passau Region

Aicha vorm Wald is a small municipality in the district of Passau, located in the so-called Passau region north of the Danube. With its location at the transition from the Bavarian Forest to the Danube region and its rural structures, Aicha is typical of the Lower Bavarian hinterland. The annual Petersfest is the highlight of the festival calendar — a real Lower Bavarian folk festival atmosphere in a village setting.

Peter and Paul Festival on the last weekend of June

As the name suggests, the Petersfest is associated with the feast day of St. Peter and Paul — June 29th in the Catholic calendar. In Aicha vorm Wald, the festival is celebrated with a generous timeframe, traditionally over the last weekend of June. In 2026, this means from June 26 to 29 — the Petersfest ends on the feast day of Peter and Paul itself.

Festival Tent with Lower Bavarian Cuisine

The centerpiece is the large festival tent at Aicha's sports field. Here, festival beer from a regional brewery flows, and the festival catering serves Lower Bavarian specialties — pork knuckles, pork shoulder, roast chicken, sausages, cheese spaetzle, along with sweet classics like apple strudel and Kaiserschmarrn. Bavarian cuisine as it should be at a classic folk festival.

Musical Program

The program alternates between traditional brass band music (in the afternoon and during the Frühschoppen) and party and cover bands in the evening. Bands like Die Voigranaten — a Lower Bavarian party band — and other regional acts perform on the Petersfest stage, making the festival tent rock until late at night.

Large Amusement Park

An extensive amusement park is set up around the festival tent: carousels, roller coasters, swing boats, Ferris wheel, shooting galleries, candy stalls, cotton candy. The Petersfest is also an attraction for families and children, as the park is generously sized and offers a mix of classics and newer attractions.

How a Folk Festival is Organized

The Petersfest Aicha GbR is the professional organizational structure behind the festival. Beer tokens can be purchased in advance, table reservations are possible, and the festival tent is equipped with modern event technology. The GbR ensures that the festival runs smoothly every year and that the tradition remains alive.

Lower Bavarian Folk Festival Tradition

Anyone who wants to experience an authentic Lower Bavarian folk festival — without the mass tourism of Munich's Oktoberfest, but with a genuine village community, Lower Bavarian dialect, and rural charm — will find it at the Petersfest Aicha. A four-day escape from everyday life that shows how vibrant folk festival culture is in the Passau region.

Petersfest Aicha — edition 2026

From June 26 to 29, 2026, Petersfest Aicha GbR invites you to the traditional folk festival at Aicha vorm Wald sports field. Four festival days with a festival tent, Lower Bavarian cuisine, party and brass band music (including Die Voigranaten), an extensive amusement park, and a colorful program for the whole family — the festival ends on St. Peter and Paul's Day itself.

The Petersfest 2026 will take place from Friday, June 26, to Monday, June 29, 2026 (St. Peter and Paul's Day) at the Aicha vorm Wald sports field. Four days of festival tent operation, Lower Bavarian cuisine, party and brass band music, a large amusement park with rides — the usual program of a classic Lower Bavarian folk festival.

In the festival tent, brass music in the afternoon alternates with cover bands in the evening. Regional acts such as the Lower Bavarian party band Die Voigranaten will perform on stage. The festival catering serves pork knuckles, pork shoulder, chicken, and delicious festival beer — typical Lower Bavarian folk festival cuisine.
