A Summer Festival from the Pfaffenwinkel

Over three decades, the Peitinger Bürgerfest has developed into one of the most important summer festivals in the market town of Peiting in the Upper Bavarian district of Weilheim-Schongau. Right in the heart of the so-called Pfaffenwinkel – a region between the Lech and Ammergau Alps, known for its pilgrimage churches and Baroque culture – the people of Peiting celebrate their Bürgerfest as an expression of vibrant community life.

Community-Run Festival Concept

What makes the Bürgerfest special is its complete organization by Peiting's local associations. Instead of a single caterer, a multitude of local sports, music, fire, and traditional associations run the food and drink stalls. On the Unterer Hauptplatz, you'll find stands offering grilled sausages, fish on a stick, shashlik, fries, homemade cakes, ice cream, draft beer, cocktails, and non-alcoholic drinks – each stand with its own atmosphere, its own association, and its own specialty.

Live Music in the Heart of Peiting

The stage in the center of the main square is active throughout the entire weekend. The program ranges from Bavarian brass music and folk music to Schlager, acoustic sets, and cover bands, all the way to rock and pop. Classic festival culture with free admission, right in the middle of the market town.

Shooting and Throwing Stalls, Night Flea Market

Part of the Volksfest atmosphere are the shooting and throwing stalls – small games of chance with prizes, where families love to stop. However, the real highlight of the weekend is the night flea market, traditionally organized by the SPD Peiting. Until the late evening hours, bargain hunters wander between the stalls, searching for curiosities and striking up conversations with live music.

Family Sunday with the Holiday Program Team

Sunday is all about families. The Ferienprogramm-Team Peiting (Peiting Holiday Program Team) offers a varied children's program in the morning and afternoon with games, crafts, face painting, and hands-on activities. This turns the main square into a meeting point for parents and grandparents while the little ones explore the equipment and activities.

Peiting – Market Town in the Pfaffenwinkel

With around 12,000 inhabitants, Peiting is the largest market town in the Pfaffenwinkel. Worth seeing are the late Gothic parish church of St. Michael, the history of Schongau (Peiting was once the seat of the Welfs), and its location at the gateway to the Ammergau Alps. The Bürgerfest complements these tourist highlights with authentic urban life, not overshadowed by tourism.
