Spring market with Sunday opening hours in Osthofen's city center with market stalls, gastronomy, and family program
Osthofen is a small town in Rheinhessen with around 9,500 inhabitants in the Wonnegau region, north of Worms. The town looks back on over 1200 years of history and has preserved its historical character with the distinctive Friedrich-Ebert-Straße, the old town hall, and the small church. Osthofen is primarily known as the site of the former Osthofen concentration camp, which now functions as a memorial and represents an important site of remembrance of the Nazi era. Besides this, Osthofen is also a lively wine town with traditional wineries and an active festival culture.
The Ostoviusmarkt opens the spring season in Osthofen every year. On this Sunday in April, Friedrich-Ebert-Straße transforms into a market and festival mile. Stalls with regional produce line up: farm specialties, honey, cheese, sausages, baked goods, wine, handicrafts, jewelry, clothing, and plants for spring planting. The square by the small church offers space for gastronomy and seating.
A Sunday shopping event takes place parallel to the market: Osthofen's retail stores open their doors and attract visitors with spring offers. This combination of market and retail makes the day a shopping and experience day that draws visitors from far beyond Osthofen. The town traditionally attracts high visitor numbers from the entire Wonnegau region, from Worms, Mainz, and Mannheim on this day.
For families, there is an additional program: face painting, small carousels, balloons, and sweet specialties make the market day an experience for the youngest visitors too. The spring sunshine, the first warm days, and the cheerful atmosphere of an open market after the winter months make the Ostoviusmarkt one of the most popular dates in Osthofen's festival calendar.
