Spring Funfair in Westrich

Baumholder, in the Birkenfeld district, is primarily known as a US garrison town on the edge of the Baumholder military training area. However, this town in Westrich is also a traditional market town with its own history. For decades, the Osterkirmes on Weihervorplatz has been one of the largest regional folk festivals around Easter and attracts audiences from far beyond the immediate vicinity.

Eleven Days of Rides and Game Stalls

The eleven days around Easter bring a dense sequence of funfair days with different focuses: family days with reduced prices, Schlager afternoons, disco nights for young people, and senior programs. On Weihervorplatz, you'll find classic rides like bumper cars, a Ferris wheel, Breakdancer, Wave Swinger, and children's carousels, as well as game stalls with arcade games, throwing games, and shooting galleries. Food stands offer bratwurst, fries, almonds, gingerbread hearts, cotton candy, and crêpes; classic funfair gastronomy.

Baumholder maintains a mix of classic folk festival tradition – opening with a keg tapping ceremony (Fassanstich), a parade on the first weekend, and a religious connection to Easter – and a modern show funfair with large rides from traveling showmen families from across the country.
