Sunday shopping in Oppenheim's historic old town with live music, culinary delights, and the opening of the German Wine Museum
The Oppenheimer Frühling is a traditional spring market with Sunday shopping and has been the season opener in the Rheinhessen town for years. For six hours, from 12 PM to 6 PM, the city center around Marktplatz, Krämerstraße, and Wormser Straße transforms into a versatile festival mile.
Live bands perform on several stages and in central courtyards, providing the musical backdrop for the afternoon. The repertoire ranges from rock and pop to jazz and local Rheinhessen dialect songs. Between performances, visitors stroll through a dense array of craft and sales stands offering jewelry, ceramics, textiles, art, and regional specialties.
Culinary delights play a central role: at the stands around the city center, you'll find a wide spectrum from Rheinhessen classics like Spundekäs and Handkäs mit Musik to Flammkuchen, Bratwurst, and international specialties. Winemakers from Oppenheim and the surrounding area serve their white, rosé, and red wines.
A special highlight in 2026 is the official opening of the German Wine Museum in Oppenheim. The museum is dedicated to the more than two-thousand-year history of German viticulture and will open its doors to the public for the first time with the Oppenheimer Frühling 2026. Guided city tours complement the program: they lead through the historic old town, to the Gothic Katharinenkirche, and into the famous cellar labyrinth beneath the city.
The Oppenheimer Frühling is designed as a family festival. For the youngest visitors, there are play areas, carousels, and craft activities, while parents can shop in the city center stores, which are open on this Sunday shopping day.
The 2026 edition marks a special year for Oppenheim: the German Wine Museum, a nationally significant cultural institution, opens its doors for the first time. The official opening takes place as part of the Oppenheimer Frühling and is integrated into the festival program. In addition, the proven concept of live music, culinary offerings, market stalls, and city tours remains.
The exact stage program for 2026 will be published by the City of Oppenheim in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
