Annual highlight of the wine town Oppenheim on the 2nd weekend of August with top wines from Oppenheim and Rheinhessen
Oppenheim, on the left bank of the Rhine south of Mainz, is one of the most historically and wine-culturally significant towns in Rheinhessen. The late Gothic St. Catherine's Church – with its high choir from the 14th century, one of the most important Gothic churches on the Middle Rhine – is the town's landmark. The Landskron Castle ruins, the German Viticulture Museum, and the famous underground Oppenheim Cellar Labyrinth make Oppenheim a tourist magnet. The classified vineyard sites Sackträger, Kreuz, and Herrenberg produce top wines.
The Oppenheim Wine Festival is the annual highlight of the wine town – four days on the second weekend of August, during which the historic center around the Gothic town hall transforms into one of the most beautiful wine festival stages in Rheinhessen. From August 7 to 10, 2026, the town invites you to the 2026 edition.
The focus is on the Oppenheim vintners with their current vintages: Riesling from the classified vineyard sites Sackträger and Kreuz, Pinot Noir, Early Burgundy, Silvaner, Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder, Müller-Thurgau, Rosé, and Sekt (sparkling wine). In addition, selected top Rheinhessen wines from the wider region will be served – a concept that makes Oppenheim a stage for the entire Rheinhessen wine world.
The backdrop is extraordinary: the Gothic town hall, the surrounding alleys with half-timbered houses and Renaissance buildings, the sightline to the late Gothic St. Catherine's Church, and the shady inner courtyard around the festival grounds create an atmosphere that few other wine festivals in Rheinhessen can offer.
Club life is intensely involved: Oppenheim clubs – music clubs, sports clubs, carnival clubs, heritage societies – run stalls, provide catering, and visibly express the town's social life. The culinary offerings include Rheinhessen specialties: Spundekäs, Handkäs mit Musik, Bratwurst, steaks, Flammkuchen, homemade salads, cheese platters, and, depending on the day, special delicacies.
Live music is featured on several stages with bands, dance orchestras, cover bands, and acoustic acts. Four festival days that make the Oppenheim Wine Festival the social highlight of the summer.
The 2026 edition follows the proven concept of the Oppenheim Wine Festival: four festival days, Oppenheim vintners with their top wines, selected guest vintners from Rheinhessen, club life, live music, and the unmistakable backdrop of the historic old town.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the city of Oppenheim in due time. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years.
