Comeback after a multi-year break – Open-air festival with regional and national acts, DJs, and family program on the Okerinsel
The Okerinsel Festival returns in 2026 after a multi-year break. The Okerinsel is located on the southwestern edge of Braunschweig's city center, nestled in the course of the Oker river and directly adjacent to the popular "Cultviertel". The island is accessible via bridges from both banks – a natural open-air venue under old trees and by the water.
On the main stage, regional bands and national acts alternate. DJ sets will also be played, seamlessly transitioning the program from live concerts in the afternoon to the late evening hours. The stylistic range is broad: Indie, Pop, Rock, Soul, Funk, electronic music – the festival consciously positions itself as a cross-generational city festival, not a pure genre festival.
Parallel to the main stage, there is a dedicated children's and family area. Walk-acts, interactive stations, creative workshops, and gastronomic offerings for families make the festival attractive in the afternoon as well – not least for parents with small children.
The Okerinsel Festival is free to enter. The main organizer is the Braunschweigische Landessparkasse, which sees the festival as a gift to the city and its citizens. Between 10,000 and 12,000 visitors are expected throughout the day.
On Saturday, September 12, 2026, the Okerinsel opens in the late morning, and the musical program starts around 3 PM. Live acts and DJ sets will alternate on the main stage until approximately 11 PM.
The main organizer is the Braunschweigische Landessparkasse (BLSK) – the festival is free to enter and is aimed at families, residents, and festival fans from the city and region. 10,000 to 12,000 visitors are expected.
The exact lineup will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the key points of the festival concept:
Okerinsel in the Cultviertel, 38120 Braunschweig. Access via bridges from the southern and northern Oker riverbanks.
By tram / bus to "Wilhelmstraße" or "Inselwall". Approximately 15 minutes from the main train station by public transport or on foot. Limited parking – travel by public transport or bicycle recommended.
Free admission. Food and drinks available at gastronomic stands.
