A Young Advent Market with a Religious Core

The Oberharzer Adventszauber is among the newest Advent formats in the Westharz region. In its second edition in 2026, the organizer continues to focus on the combination of sacred space and market atmosphere outside. The church building of St. Salvatoris Church serves as the sheltered interior space for a craft market, while secular market activities unfold in front of the church.

Crafts in the Church, Market Outside

Inside the church, artists and craftspeople from the Oberharz and surrounding areas exhibit their work: ceramics, wood carvings, turned wood items, textiles, jewelry, and small mining souvenirs. The atmosphere is focused and quiet, with the historic church space enhancing the display of the works. Outside the church, stalls offer mulled wine, bratwurst, baked goods, and non-alcoholic hot beverages.

Concerts and Church Service

Throughout the weekend, concerts utilize the church's interior space. Choirs, brass ensembles, and soloists perform short concerts, and a church service on Sunday forms the spiritual heart of the festival. This positions the Adventszauber deliberately as an event that brings together market and faith in a shared presentation.

With Clausthal-Zellerfeld, Altenau, Hahnenklee, and Schulenberg, this area is one of Lower Saxony's most beautiful low mountain range Advent destinations. The combination of mining town character, hiking opportunities, and small-scale Advent markets makes the region a popular short break destination between Bremen, Hanover, and Magdeburg.
