Overview

Before the premiere in 2026, the Nürnberg Punk Fest did not exist in this form. In 2025, Wasted Open Air and KNRD Fest were still separate events organized by their respective associations. It was only in 2026 that Turbojugend Schlachthaus e.V. (Wasted Open Air) and KNRD Fest e.V. joined forces for the joint indoor premiere at the Künstlerhaus.

Lead-up to Nürnberg Punk Fest

The idea for a joint indoor punk festival matured in 2024 and 2025 within the Nuremberg DIY scene. Both organizing associations – Turbojugend Schlachthaus e.V. with Wasted Open Air and KNRD Fest e.V. with its established indoor festival – already had experience in booking bands, DIY booking, and festival organization. In 2025, the concept for the joint indoor festival was decided, the Künstlerhaus was chosen as the venue, and the lineup for the 2026 premiere was put together.

Connection to the Nuremberg Punk Scene

The DIY punk scene in Nuremberg has been vibrant for decades – the Künstlerhaus / KunstKulturQuartier has provided a stage for numerous punk bands from Middle Franconia, Bavaria, and internationally over the years. The Nürnberg Punk Fest builds on this tradition and brings it into a larger festival format.
