When Naurod blooms, Wiesbaden celebrates

The Äppelblütefest in Wiesbaden-Naurod is in May what the 'Kerb' (local festival) is in autumn: the big club festival of the district, combined with a folk festival character and funfair. Since 1954, celebrations have been held in May when the orchards around Naurod are in full apple blossom — and in 2026, it's the 72nd edition.

A festival mile on Auringer Straße

The venue is Auringer Straße and the adjacent festival grounds in the heart of Naurod. Over the extended May weekend, the town center transforms into a festival mile: Courtyard entrances open as Straußwirtschaften, serving apple wine, regional cuisine, and small dishes. A stage in the center features pop and rock bands, while smaller stages focus on traditional Hessian music.

The grand parade on Sunday

The highlight is the parade on Sunday at 2 PM — a long procession of decorated floats, traditional costume groups, brass bands, children's groups, and club groups. Each edition has its own motto: in 2026, the parade will march through Naurod under the guiding principle "We travel…". It is accompanied by the reigning Apple Blossom Queen — in 2026, this is Sophia I., "a true Naurod girl", as the press release states.

More than just a parade

The program is diverse: flea market on Saturday afternoon, a children's balloon parade, pony rides, an ecumenical church service, family day on Whit Monday, and funfair rides throughout all four days. The Straußwirtschaften are open late into the night on Fridays and Saturdays (documented until 2 AM).

Naurod and the orchards

Naurod is located in the Wiesbaden hills between the Untertaunus and Rheingau regions, surrounded by old orchards — hence the apple connection. Apple wine ("Äppelwoi") is the national drink of these Hessian suburbs; the festival celebrates it not by chance, but because the culture behind it is truly lived.
