Shops open until midnight, glittering lights in the city center – Dahn's Advent highlight
The Night of 1000 Lights is the central Advent event in Dahn and one of the most prominent dates in the city's event calendar. The city center is bathed in a special atmosphere with thousands of lights, candles, torches, and lighting effects; at the same time, the shops open for an exceptionally long shopping evening until midnight.
Dahn, with just under 5,000 inhabitants, is the center of the Dahn Felsenland and the seat of the Verbandsgemeinde Dahner Felsenland. During the Night of 1000 Lights, retailers, boutiques, galleries, and local businesses stay open far beyond regular hours – the entire city center becomes an evening experience zone. This makes the evening just as attractive for last-minute Christmas gift shoppers as it is for guests who simply want to enjoy the winter cityscape.
The centerpiece of the event is the elaborate lighting: fairy lights on the facades, candles on the windowsills, torches, and fire pits along the main street, illuminated fir trees in the squares. Dahn's red sandstone architecture – characteristic of the Palatinate low mountain range – looks particularly impressive in the warm light. Advent songs are played in many places, or small live acts with acoustic music are presented.
Mulled wine stands, snack bars, and mini Christmas market vendors line the squares. Classics like roasted chestnuts (Maronen), Palatinate gingerbread (Pfälzer Lebkuchen), potato pancakes (Reibekuchen), bratwurst, or mulled beer (Glühbier) complement the offerings. Clubs and restaurateurs serve visitors; the proceeds go to social projects or club activities.
The 2026 edition of the Night of 1000 Lights continues the successful concept: a single evening where the city transforms into a landscape of lights and retail and gastronomy work hand in hand. The exact program for 2026 will be published by the City of Dahn and participating shops in November. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years.
