Traditional Garden Festival of the Musikkapelle Ingenried on Corpus Christi
The Musikkapelle Ingenried e.V. has been the musical heart of the Upper Bavarian municipality of Ingenried in the Weilheim-Schongau district for over 110 years. With around 40 active musicians under the direction of Katharina Fietz, the band plays at processions, festivals, and concerts throughout the region between Ammersee, Auerberg, and Allgäu. Their own festival is the annual Gartenfest on Corpus Christi.
Corpus Christi is a public holiday in Bavaria (Thursday, 60 days after Easter) and a traditional festival day in predominantly Catholic communities. In Ingenried, the day traditionally begins at 9 a.m. with the Corpus Christi procession through the village, musically accompanied by the band. The Gartenfest follows – a Frühschoppen with brass music, which often lasts until the late afternoon.
Ingenried, with around 1,000 inhabitants, is a small rural community in the so-called Pfaffenwinkel, the hilly landscape rich in monasteries and pilgrimage churches between Ammersee, Lech, and Allgäu. The Weilheim-Schongau district belongs to Upper Bavaria and is characterized by its landscape of scattered orchards, small farm communities, and pre-Alpine panoramas. The Gartenfest is part of a dense annual calendar of association festivals that supports community life in the municipality: Easter concert by the band, Schützenfeste (marksmen's festivals), senior afternoons, autumn market with tarte flambée in September, Christmas concert in December.
With over 110 years of association history, the Musikkapelle Ingenried is one of the oldest musical institutions in Pfaffenwinkel. The voluntary work of the association members is the driving force behind the Gartenfest – without commercial showmen, without a large sponsor structure. Those who celebrate here celebrate in a village community that lives from its own music.
The 2026 edition of the Gartenfest follows the proven schedule: procession in the morning, Frühschoppen and Gartenfest afterwards until the afternoon. The organizer is the Musikkapelle Ingenried e.V. with its approximately 40 active musicians under the direction of Katharina Fietz.
The Musikkapelle Ingenried provides the musical accompaniment. Guest bands from Pfaffenwinkel and neighboring communities are often invited. The selection of pieces ranges from traditional Bavarian brass music and sacred pieces (for the procession) to concert works.
The exact festival location, possible guest bands, and program details will be announced before the date on the Facebook page of the Musikkapelle Ingenried.
