Comeback of a Tradition
In the 1990s and early 2000s, the Multivan Windsurf Cup was one of the defining competition formats in German windsurfing. Borkum was one of the most important venues at the time. With its return in 2026, the island will host a sporting event that attracts top German athletes while strengthening the island's maritime summer image.
Four Disciplines, One Spot
The program includes the four classic windsurfing disciplines: Racing, Slalom, Wave, and Freestyle. Racing and Slalom are about speed on a marked course; in Wave, points are scored in the surf with jumps, wave rides, and maneuvers; Freestyle is the most creative discipline with elaborate tricks. Borkum is one of the few spots in Germany where all four disciplines can be held under good conditions.
Date on the Corpus Christi Weekend
The format is traditionally scheduled for the extended Corpus Christi weekend, when the start of school holidays and bridging days make travel easier for many visitors. The exact heat order will be decided on-site by the Race Committee in coordination with wind and weather.
Island Event with Trans-regional Appeal
The competitions are free to access, and the event area at Nordbad offers the best view of the athletes. Press conferences, athlete talks, and meet-and-greet formats complement the sporting program. A highlight of early summer for surf fans, islanders, and holidaymakers alike.
Multivan Windsurf Cup — edition 2026
