Three-day city festival in the half-timbered old town with three stages and Sunday shopping
Hann. Münden is the famous three-rivers town at the confluence of the Werra and Fulda rivers forming the Weser. The historic old town with its over 700 half-timbered houses from several centuries – including numerous Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical buildings – is one of the most beautiful old town ensembles in Germany. The annual Old Town Festival showcases this extraordinary setting and makes it the stage for a lively, three-day city festival.
The festival is spread across three stages in the old town, each with its own profile. The main stage presents the larger live acts, primarily cover bands that entertain the audience with well-known songs. A smaller stage is reserved for newcomers and singer-songwriters. A third stage features DJ sets and artistic performances. This distribution creates program diversity and movement within the festival grounds.
A special tradition is the flea market on Burgstraße. Private individuals and occasional vendors present bric-a-brac, antiques, books, clothing, and curiosities. The flea market attracts its own audience and complements the stage program with a quieter, more leisurely component.
On Sunday, the shops in Münden's city center open for an afternoon of shopping. This links the festival with the interests of local retail and creates additional attractive reasons to visit the old town.
Classic folk festival elements such as carousels, small amusement rides, and food stalls complement the stage program. The culinary mile offers regional specialties – Münden bratwurst, Hessian specialties from the nearby border region, and international classics like pizza, pasta, and Asian food.
The old town of Hann. Münden, with its over 700 half-timbered houses, offers an extraordinary backdrop for a city festival of this magnitude. For three days, the historic substance becomes a stage, a marketplace, and a festival ground – an experience that few German cities can offer in this form.
