A Market World in Bückeburg
With the MPS, a market world has been established over the decades that embraces the early and high Middle Ages as well as fantasy motifs and romantic stagings. The Spectaculum is more than a market: it is a living tableau of crafts, music, martial arts, and storytelling that immerses visitors in another era. In Bückeburg, the Spectaculum traditionally takes place on two consecutive weekends in the Palace Gardens – a unique constellation among the German MPS locations.
Program for the First Weekend
The first Bückeburg MPS weekend on July 25th and 26th, 2026, offers the full spectrum of the Spectaculum: knight tournaments with lances and swords, falconry demonstrations, a fire show late in the evening, juggler performances, and music groups on several stages. In the living camp, swordsmen, blacksmiths, spinners, and archers embody their roles; visitors can explore the camp and talk with the participants.
Mr. Hurley & die Pulveraffen
A staple of the musical lineup is the pirate-folk group Mr. Hurley & die Pulveraffen, who regularly fill the largest stages with their energetic performances. Other medieval bands shape the soundscape, from hurdy-gurdy and bagpipes to medieval rock and folk ensembles from Germany and abroad.
Last MPS Season
According to the organizers, 2026 is the last season of the MPS in this form. For many regular visitors and market travelers, this season marks a moving farewell to a format that has shaped the German medieval market scene for decades. Bückeburg, as a double venue, takes on a special symbolic meaning.
