Concert with the St. Marien Choir and Organ in the Main Church BMV Wolfenbüttel
The motet is one of the oldest and most continuous genres in Western music. The tradition, in which sacred texts are set to polyphonic music, spans from the Middle Ages through the vocal polyphony of the Renaissance to the great motets of Johann Sebastian Bach and their Romantic successors. As a significant Protestant city church, BMV cultivates this tradition in a special way and repeatedly features it in its concert series.
The St. Marien Choir is the central vocal ensemble of the Main Church BMV. With dedicated singers, the choir regularly rehearses demanding sacred literature and performs it in services, cantata performances, and concert evenings. The combination of community life and musical quality makes the choir an indispensable part of the BMV's cultural identity.
Markus Manderscheid, Director of Music at BMV Wolfenbüttel, is a defining personality in the North German church music scene. As an organist, choirmaster, and concert organizer, he shapes the musical identity of BMV and ensures a diverse concert program. His organ works complement the motets performed by the choir to create a balanced concert program.
The combination of choir and organ has been a central element of Protestant church music for centuries. In a concert format, the emphasis shifts from its liturgical function to a concert presentation, without losing the spiritual character of the works. Those who wish to conclude the month of May with a concentrated chamber music concert evening are welcome at BMV.
