Möhnenwaldfest Ehlscheid

Ehlscheid — High-altitude village in the Rengsdorfer Land

Ehlscheid is located on the ridge of the Rengsdorfer Land in the Rengsdorf-Waldbreitbach collective municipality. The village is surrounded by forests and agricultural land and maintains a strong club culture, in which the Heimathalle plays a central role as a meeting point. Various clubs — men's choir, sports club, women's association (Möhnenverein), fire brigade — shape the annual calendar with festivals.

Möhnenverein and the "Möhne" Tradition

In Rhenish tradition, "Möhne" refers to the organized women's association of a village or district. Möhnenvereine are particularly active during Carnival (Weiberfastnacht / 'Wieverfastelovend'), but also contribute to village festivals, community service, charity, and social events throughout the year. The Möhnenverein Ehlscheid is one of the traditional women's associations in the Westerwald region.

The Forest Festival

The annual Möhnenwaldfest is the association's summer event. Tables and standing beer tables are set up on the forecourt of the Heimathalle — the festival owes its name to its 'forest location' — featuring live music (acoustic, Schlager, or cover band), catering with bratwurst, fries, salads, coffee, cake, and beer; a relaxed summer atmosphere where locals, friendly clubs from neighboring villages, and guests from the Rengsdorfer Land come together.

Association and Funding

The proceeds from the forest festival go towards the club activities of the Möhnenverein: Carnival events, excursions, charity actions, and potentially support for village projects. Visitors to the festival directly support concrete village and club structures.
