Classical chamber music series in the White Hall of Mitwitz Water Castle
The Mitwitz Castle Concerts are among the finest chamber music series in the Kronach district, in the state of Bavaria. The venue is the historic White Hall of Mitwitz Water Castle, one of the most beautiful castles in Upper Franconia, built in the 16th century as a Renaissance water castle. The intimate, acoustically excellent hall with its stucco ceiling and chandelier can seat around 100 listeners and guarantees an authentic chamber music experience.
The 2026 season is presented under the motto "Small but Fine" and consists of three concerts between May and the end of September. The renowned Opus 4 Clarinet Quartet will kick things off on May 18, followed on June 14 by the duo of Maximilian Schairer (piano) and Philipp Jonas (violin) with "Love Greetings from the North." Pianist Diana Brekalo will conclude the season on September 28 with a program focusing on historically marginalized female composers.
The Castle Concerts are based on a consistent programming concept: young, internationally active musicians are specifically invited to perform in the intimate atmosphere of the water castle. Thus, the Mitwitz Castle Concerts complement the concert offerings in Upper Franconia beyond the major venues in Bayreuth, Bamberg, or Coburg with a select, high-quality format.
The organizers are the municipality of Mitwitz and the Kronach District Cultural Office. The series is co-financed through cultural funding from the district, ensuring that ticket prices remain affordable. Tickets can be reserved through the District Cultural Office (Tel. +49 9261 678-300, [email protected]).
The 2026 season of the Mitwitz Castle Concerts includes three carefully curated chamber music evenings in the White Hall of Mitwitz Water Castle. Organizers Municipality of Mitwitz and Kronach District Cultural Office have deliberately chosen the motto "Small but Fine" – a small, select, and fine program in an intimate castle setting.
The opening on Monday, May 18, 2026, features the clarinet quartet Opus 4 with members of the Blue Moon Orchestra (Marco Plitzner, Ninette Soyez-Plitzner, Angelina Plitzner, Alexandra Fiedler). Their Journey Through the Eras showcases the broad tonal spectrum of the clarinet in original works and their own arrangements.
On Sunday, June 14, pianist Maximilian Schairer and violinist Philipp Jonas will present "Love Greetings from the North" – a program of sophisticated, sometimes rare, sonata chamber music from the Scandinavian and Northern European regions.
The finale on Monday, September 28, will be performed by pianist Diana Brekalo with a program focusing on rebellious female composers – historically marginalized women whose musical works are being rediscovered.
Admission is €15-€20 per concert, with concessions for students and the severely disabled. Reservations can be made through the Kronach District Cultural Office: Tel. +49 9261 678-300, [email protected], or directly at the box office on the concert evening (limited availability).
