About Music Summer Mittenwald
Music Summer Mittenwald — edition 2026
The Mittenwalder Musiksommer 2026 extends over the entire summer period, from July to October. The concert evenings take place over several weeks at four main venues: the Baroque Parish Church of St. Peter and Paul, the Protestant Trinity Church, the Violin Making Museum, and the Puit spa gardens (open-air stage).
The series combines classical concerts (organ music, string ensembles, chamber music) with folk music evenings of Alpine character. The organizer is the municipal Alpenwelt Karwendel Mittenwald Krün Wallgau Tourismus GmbH. A detailed program will be continuously published on the official website.

Concert Series Between the Karwendel and Wetterstein Mountains
The Mittenwalder Musiksommer is not a compact festival week, but a concert series spread throughout the summer months. From July to October, classical and folk music evenings take place regularly in Mittenwald, aimed at spa guests and residents of the Karwendel region. The organizer is the municipal Alpenwelt Karwendel Mittenwald Krün Wallgau Tourismus GmbH, which compiles the program together with local ensembles, violin-making initiatives, and visiting musicians.
Four Distinct Venues
The Baroque parish church of St. Peter and Paul, with its painted facades, is one of Upper Bavaria's most famous churches – its acoustic space is particularly suited for organ music, string quartets, and sacred classical music. The Protestant Trinity Church offers a more understated setting for chamber music. The Violin Making Museum is dedicated to Mittenwald's centuries-old violin-making tradition and serves as an intimate stage for readings and acoustic concerts with its small event hall. The Puit spa gardens provide an open-air backdrop for brass music, traditional costume performances, and spa concerts.
Spa Concerts During Peak Season
A regular feature of the Musiksommer are the spa concerts held in the bandstand of the Puit spa gardens. During the peak season, brass bands, folk music groups, and dance groups from the Werdenfelser Land perform regularly on Tuesday evenings, and during the busiest weeks, also on Thursdays. Admission is usually free.
Violin Making, Schuhplattler, and Heimatabende
Mittenwald has been a center for violin making since the 17th century. In the summer, Heimatabende (traditional evenings), Schuhplattler performances by the local traditional costume association, and occasional appearances by the Mittenwald Farmers' Theater complement the classical evenings. This makes the Musiksommer a hybrid format combining sacred classical music, chamber music, folk music, and local customs.
In the Karwendel Nature Park
Mittenwald is part of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district in Upper Bavaria and lies at the entrance to the Karwendel Nature Park. With around 7,400 inhabitants, the municipality is home to the famous violin-making craft and is known for its painted houses. Access is via the A95 motorway or directly by the DB Werdenfelsbahn train from Munich.
