Meinkot — District of the Municipality of Velpke
Meinkot is a district of the municipality of Velpke in the northeastern Helmstedt district. The small, rural village with a few hundred inhabitants thrives on its intact club life and close-knit community. The family festival has been the central event for families and children here for years.
Families and Children at the Center
Unlike the larger shooting festivals (Schützenfeste) of the municipality of Velpke, the Meinkot Family Festival is deliberately tailored to families and children. The program avoids purely adult formats (dance evenings, shooting competitions) and focuses on the shared experience of parents and children.
Children's Program
Bouncy castle, face painting, craft stations, play activities for different age groups, sports and skill games fill the day. Often, a small petting zoo, a fairy tale hour, or a creative hands-on activity are also part of the program.
Catering and Socializing
Local clubs and volunteers set up catering stands. Bratwurst, fries, cake, coffee, drinks, and ice cream form the basic gastronomic offering. Seating and gazebos create meeting points for adults while the children explore the grounds.
Community Association as Organizer
The event is organized by the local community association Meinkot — typically a cooperation between the shooting club, fire department, sports club, and heritage society. This organizational structure guarantees a diverse program and the mobilization of sufficient volunteer hands.
Village Festival with Character
The Meinkot Family Festival is one of the characteristic small village festivals that are maintained in the districts of the municipality of Velpke. Anyone who wants to experience authentic North German village life will find it here.
