Carnival party of the Mainzer Carneval Club on the Rhine
The Mainzer Carneval Club 1899 e.V. (MCC) is, after the MCV, the second major traditional carnival club in the city and has shaped the image of the Meenzer Fassenacht for over 125 years. With sessions like the Birnbaum-Sitzung, the MCC-Finale, and several grand gala sessions (Prunkfremdensitzungen), the MCC is one of the pillars of Mainz's hall carnival. The MCC Narrenschiff, in this tradition, represents a modern, party-oriented format that moves the carnival experience from the hall to an unusual setting: onto the waters of Father Rhine.
The venue is the MS RheinMagie, one of the most modern passenger ships on the Middle Rhine. With a large covered main deck area, outdoor terraces, bars, and professional stage equipment, the ship can accommodate several hundred guests. Boarding begins on the Mainz Rhine bank in the early evening, and departure is at the typical carnival time of 8:11 PM. As the ship leaves the pier and cruises into the evening Rhine scenery, the program begins.
For the Narrenschiff, the MCC brings together a diverse lineup of its own performers and guest acts. The Mainz guards are represented with show dance segments, MCC singers present classic and new Mainz carnival songs, and satirical speakers (Büttenredner) provide political and social commentary. Alternating with the stage program, a live band plays, followed by DJ sets that fill the dance floor. Costumes are encouraged — from classic Mainz tradition to creative fantasy interpretations.
The Narrenschiff is scheduled for a Thursday evening during the campaign week of the first MCC grand gala session and is consciously positioned as a counterpoint to the formal hall session in the Kurfürstliches Schloss: no tuxedo, but costumes; no committee in neat rows, but a dance floor and bar. Those who want to experience Mainz carnival in its exuberant, party-oriented form with a unique backdrop will find one of the most popular and fastest-selling carnival events of the entire campaign on the MS RheinMagie.
The program follows the proven dramaturgy of the MCC Narrenschiff. After boarding at 6:33 PM, catering and a welcoming atmosphere begin on board. With the departure at 8:11 PM, the stage program starts: an alternating sequence of guard show dances, MCC singing groups, satirical speeches (Büttenreden), and musical contributions. Between the stage segments, the live band fills the dance floor, followed by DJ sets in the later part of the evening. During the cruise, the ship offers panoramic views of the nocturnal Mainz skyline with the cathedral, theater, and Rheingoldhalle, the opposite Wiesbaden bank, and the Rhine bridges. Return to the pier around 11:30 PM, with an after-party on board and on the bank.
