Flea and Craft Market with Dancing on the Market Square
Friesack is a small town in the Havelland district, about 60 kilometers west of Berlin, in the transitional area between Havelland and Rhinluch. The town has a historically developed market square with a town hall, which forms the public heart of the place – and is the venue for the Marktfest once a year in June.
The Marktfest combines two classic market formats: a flea market (privately run second-hand market) and a craft market with active demonstrations of old craft techniques. Visitors can watch a blacksmith demonstration, observe woodturners at work, and experience butter churning, the traditional way of making butter. Such demonstrations directly connect to the pre-industrial craft tradition of the region.
Local clubs present the stage program – dance groups, choirs, club performances – thus ensuring growing citizen participation throughout the day. From 7 p.m. onwards, there is traditionally dancing in the market square; the stage transitions from the club program to live music for dancing under the open sky.
Brandenburg market festivals are a fixed date in many small and medium-sized towns and follow a similar pattern: central square, market activities, club stage, dance evening. The Friesack Marktfest is one of the more characteristic representatives of this genre – manageable, supported by club life, with a clear focus on crafts and demonstrations.
The Marktfest Friesack 2026 will take place on Saturday, June 13, 2026, starting at 2 p.m. on the Friesack market square. The organizers are the Amt Friesack together with the local clubs. The market square hosts a flea market and a craft market with active demonstrations (blacksmithing, woodturning, butter churning). The stage program is organized by local clubs (dance groups, choirs, club performances). From 7 p.m., dancing under the open sky with live music. Free admission; food and drinks are paid for on site.
