Since 1984 — Jazz in the Border Triangle
The Mandau Jazz Festival is one of Saxony's most traditional jazz festivals and has been running since 1984. The organizer is the Hillersche Villa — Soziokultur im Dreiländereck, based in Zittau (Görlitz district, Saxony). The festival maintains close cross-border cooperation with the Czech Mandava Jazz Festival, which takes place concurrently in neighboring North Bohemia. Both festivals share programs and artists — creating a joint jazz festival for the border triangle that resonates far beyond regional borders.
2026 Program — October to November
The 2026 edition runs from October 2 to November 28 — almost two months of jazz with international acts. Venues are spread across several locations in Zittau: the Hillersche Villa as the central venue, the CD Studio at Markt 13 (also a ticket outlet), the Wächterhaus of the Volkshochschule Zittau, the Freiraum Zittau on Reichenberger Straße, and other stages. Stylistically, the spectrum ranges from classic mainstream jazz, modern jazz, and fusion to modern world sounds, big band sound, and jazz-related improvisation music.
Tickets and Travel
Tickets are available in the official Mandau Jazz online shop, or alternatively in advance at CD Studio (Markt 13) or the Zittau Tourist Information Center (Markt 9). Visitors attending multiple concerts can benefit from festival passes. The organizers recommend that visitors from the Czech Republic and Poland combine their visit to Mandau Jazz with the parallel Mandava Jazz Festival — the close proximity (around 30 km) makes this easily possible.
Saxony, Görlitz District, and Zittau
Zittau, a large district town in the Görlitz district of Saxony, is located in the extreme southeast of Germany — at the border triangle of Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic. The historic city with its baroque old town, the famous Great Zittau Lenten Cloth (1472), and the late baroque St. John's Church has been shaped by cross-border exchange for centuries. The Hillersche Villa, as a socio-cultural center, plays a special role: for decades, it has maintained projects with Polish and Czech partners and is at the heart of an active youth cultural scene. The Mandau Jazz Festival is a flagship of this tradition.
