Overview

The 25th lit.COLOGNE took place in March 2025 — with the usual program scope of around 180 events in more than twelve Cologne venues. International stars from novels, essays, non-fiction, and comics were invited. The anniversary year marked a quarter-century of lit.COLOGNE since its founding in 2001.

25 Years of lit.COLOGNE

The 25th edition of lit.COLOGNE in March 2025 was dedicated to the anniversary: a quarter-century of literary festival in Cologne since the inaugural edition in 2001. Over the years, lit.COLOGNE has developed into Europe's largest literary festival — with around 100,000 tickets sold annually, more than 12 venues, and prominent guests from around the world.

In 2025, the program again offered readings, discussions, workshops, and performances — from major literary events at the Flora to intimate readings at the Atelier Theater. As always, the main program was accompanied by lit.kid.COLOGNE, lit.COLOGNE POP, and DOK.COLOGNE. The organizers, KölnMusik GmbH and lit.COLOGNE GmbH, drew a positive conclusion at the end of the festival.
