The grand city festival of the Baroque city
When the linden trees in Ludwigslust's city center bloom in June, the Lindenfest begins – the most important city festival of the Baroque residential town in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district. For three days, Schloßstraße and Alexandrinenplatz become an open festival stage. Showmen set up their carousels and prize stalls, regional associations set up stands, and local bands and national artists perform on several stages.
The Lindenfest follows a proven three-part structure: The festival starts on Friday afternoon with the official opening and the first concerts. Saturday is dedicated to children and families – with the Children's and Family Festival, offering hands-on activities, dance, and music from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, finally, is dedicated to the classic city festival program with stage music and the showmen's area, which remains open until the evening.
The 2026 edition is special: Ludwigslust is celebrating its 150th anniversary as a city (the former residence received city rights in 1876). For this occasion, the traditional festive parade with over 2,000 participants – associations, schools, music bands, historical groups, showmen – will march through the city center starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday. It will be the largest parade staging in the history of the Lindenfest.
Ludwigslust is the "little sister of Versailles" – as the planned Baroque city in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district is popularly known. The ducal palace, the extensive palace park, and the symmetrical city layout shape its image to this day. The Lindenfest builds on this almost 250-year history of the city and brings it to life over a packed weekend.
The 2026 edition combines the traditional Lindenfest with the 150th city anniversary. On Friday, June 19th, the city opens the festival in the late afternoon on Schloßstraße – stage music, showmen, and gastronomic stands kick off the festive weekend. Saturday, June 20th, is dedicated from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to the grand Children's and Family Festival with dance, hands-on activities by local associations, a music stage, and games. Sunday, June 21st, starting at 1 p.m., the historic festive parade for the city anniversary with over 2,000 participants – associations, schools, music bands, historical groups, riding groups – will march through the city center. Afterwards, a grand closing concert on the main stage and showmen's attractions until the evening.
