Autumnal Homeland and Craft Market with a connection to traditional linen weaving in the Osnabrück region
Linen weaving shaped the Osnabrück region from the late Middle Ages to the 19th century. Flax was grown, retted, heckled, and spun in numerous households before the yarn was processed into linen in home weaving mills. The Leinewebermarkt in Bad Laer revives this tradition and makes it tangible for a modern audience. Demonstrations of old craft techniques, historical tools, and explanations of the importance of linen weaving for the region's economic history are part of the regular program.
On market day, numerous stallholders set up their stands on the Thieplatz. Offerings include linen goods, hand-woven textiles, pottery, basket weaving, apiary products, bread from wood-fired ovens, regional sausages, and cheeses. A gastronomic selection with hearty classics, coffee specialties, and autumnal cakes rounds off the day. Families will find hands-on activities related to the old crafts.
The Leinewebermarkt is one of the highlights of Bad Laer's event calendar in autumn and complements the year-round spa program of the brine spring community. Visitors to the market can combine their stay with a walk in the spa park, a visit to the salt boiling house, or a hike in the surrounding forests of the Teutoburg Forest.
