Traditional Kerb in the Park with Mainz Winemakers and Laubenheim Wines
Mainz-Laubenheim is located in the south of the city directly on the Rhine and is one of the traditional wine-growing districts. While the Rebblütenfest (Grape Blossom Festival) in July is the district's major summer wine festival, the Laubenheimer Kerb im Park is the classic Kirchweih tradition — and both festivals interestingly take place in the same location: Laubenheimer Park.
This dual use of the park is programmatic. As a protected, shady, and spacious festival area, the park offers excellent conditions for several festival formats throughout the year. In September, it becomes the Kirchweih festival grounds — with the typical Kerb mix of club stalls, amusement rides, beer stands, a stage, and tasting booths from Mainz winemakers.
The Laubenheim vineyards — especially Junker, Schenkel, and Edelmann — are the viticultural backbone of the district. The participating Mainz winemakers from Laubenheim present their wines at the tasting booths in the park: Riesling, Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), Silvaner, Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc), and Grauer Burgunder (Pinot Gris), as well as selected Müller-Thurgau and cuvées. This makes the Laubenheimer Kerb a dual event: a classic Kerb with a community club character and, at the same time, a wine event with local wine families.
The district's clubs contribute stalls, performances, and programs: carnival societies, sports clubs, the fire department, churches, schools, and community centers participate actively. The stage is used by regional bands and solo artists over the four days — from singer-songwriters and acoustic sets to cover bands and dialect programs.
The atmosphere under the old park trees is familiar and relaxed. Those who take the Mainz tram to Laubenheim and stroll into the park immerse themselves in the specific lifestyle of a Mainz district shaped by winegrowing.
The 2026 program will be published by the Mainz winemakers and the district committee in late summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years: Friday evening opening with beer tapping, wine stand opening, and the first concert on stage; Saturday and Sunday full-day festival operation with club stalls, wine tasting booths, amusement rides, and live music, Sunday morning ecumenical service and early-bird drinks, Sunday afternoon family program; Monday traditional Kerb closing.
