The Karnevalverein Zweibrücken (KVZ)
The Karnevalverein Zweibrücken is one of the most traditional carnival clubs in the Palatinate. Founded in 1883, the club was reactivated in 1952 after the Second World War and has been an integral part of the Zweibrücken carnival scene ever since. Its own guards, dance groups, 'Funkenmariechen', and 'Büttenredner' characterize the sessions, complemented by guest clubs from across the Palatinate and Saarland.
Format of the Prunksitzung
The Prunksitzung follows the classic Palatinate carnival format: a festive opening with the parade of guards and 'Funkenmariechen', a multi-hour stage program of 'Büttenreden', show dances, guard performances, musical contributions, and satirical sketches, rounded off by a sing-along finale and dancing. The hall is decorated in the club's colors; tables form islands where groups from clubs, companies, and families sit together.
Sold-out Festhalle
The Festhalle Zweibrücken — the city's central event hall — accommodates several hundred visitors. In recent years, the KVZ-Prunksitzung has regularly sold out, with over 400 guests in a high-spirited atmosphere. Tickets are available in advance through the club and selected outlets.
Zweibrücken Carnival Overall
The KVZ-Prunksitzung is part of a broad Zweibrücken carnival scene, which also includes the large Shrove Tuesday parade, ZFF events, and sessions by other clubs. Together, these events passionately carry the southwestern German carnival tradition through the season.
