Kunstroute Kyllburg — Umbruch

Art in Urban Space

The Kunstroute Kyllburg is a growing project that brings contemporary art out of galleries and into the public spaces of the Eifel town. The idea: Instead of just showing works in an exhibition space, they are presented in squares, courtyards, shop windows, or in front of historical buildings. This creates a connection between art and the cityscape, offering an experience for both visitors and residents.

Theme: Umbruch 2026

The motto 'Umbruch' addresses a highly topical issue, both socially and culturally. Umbruch means movement, breaking with the old, and embarking on the new — socially, ecologically, technologically, and personally. The invited artists interpret the theme in their own unique language: through sculptures, installations, paintings, photography, sound, and video works. Some address concrete upheavals like climate change or digitalization, while others reflect on aesthetic and philosophical shifts.

Opening on June 13, 2026

The official opening on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 1:30 PM, will bring together artists, organizers, and the public for a welcome address, an introduction to the works, and a guided tour of the Kunstroute. Afterwards, the stations can be explored individually, supplemented by an accompanying catalog with a map, artist biographies, and work descriptions.

Stations in the City

The Kunstroute leads through the historical city center of Kyllburg. Stations may include: squares and courtyards, shop windows, vacant storefronts, church narthexes, the park at the train station, and viewpoints overlooking the Kyll river. These unusual locations create a tension with the artworks that is often surprisingly productive.

Accompanying Program

During the run of the Kunstroute, accompanying events are planned: artist talks, guided tours, lectures, and performances. These expand the offering with in-depth engagement with the theme of 'Umbruch' and create opportunities for interaction between artists and the public.
