Open Doors for Art
KunstOffen is one of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's largest art events: On Pentecost weekend, over 1,000 artists nationwide open their studios, workshops, and galleries at more than 600 locations. The Hanseatic city of Wismar in the Nordwestmecklenburg district is also part of this tour through the regional art scene.
Art to Experience
The appeal of KunstOffen lies in direct contact: Visitors can experience the creative process, meet the artists in their work environment, and purchase original works directly without going through a gallery. The offerings are diverse – ranging from painting and photography to textile art, sculpture, ceramics, and jewelry.
Creative Locations in Wismar
In Wismar, various studios and creative institutions participate, including the Atelierhaus der Kulturmühle Wismar e.V. This integrates the Hanseatic city into the statewide network of KunstOffen locations and makes Pentecost a perfect occasion to discover the city''s art scene.
Art and World Heritage
Visitors to KunstOffen in Wismar can combine their studio visits with a stroll through the old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Brick Gothic architecture, the harbor, and gabled houses provide the backdrop for a weekend where contemporary art meets historic cityscape.
KunstOffen Wismar — edition 2026
KunstOffen 2026 will be celebrated on the Pentecost weekend from May 23 to 25. Throughout Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, over 1,160 artists will open their studios, workshops, and galleries at more than 660 locations.

In Wismar
Wismar is also participating in KunstOffen 2026. The Atelierhaus der Kulturmühle Wismar e.V. offers painting activities, among other things; on Saturday evening, it invites guests to a communal courtyard dinner.

Getting There
Wismar is located on the railway line to Schwerin and Rostock. By car, take the A20 (Wismar exit). The participating studios are spread throughout and around the old town.
Admission
Visiting the open studios is generally free.
